President and Winemaker Bill Easton has been in the wine trade for over 30 years, not only as a winemaker, but also as a wine retailer, importer, and vineyard consultant. He has been handcrafting Terre Rouge Wines since the mid-1980's. Terre Rouge is located in California on the West Slope of the Sierra Nevada in Amador County's Shenandoah Valley. Our wines are made from vineyards in four Sierra Foothill counties: Placer, El Dorado, Amador, and Calaveras. We also source fruit from one vineyard site in the soon-to-be new Clements appellation.

The style of our wines emphasizes deep color, balanced flavors, full middle palate, and a long finish, with power and finesse. They gain complexity with age. Our goal has been to make the finest wines possible from our region - wines that transcend time and place and can be placed on the table with the best wines of the world. They are meant to be enjoyed with good food and friends.

Terre Rouge means "Red Earth". This vermillon-colored soil is one of hallmarks of our region. Our vineyards are in soils that are largely granite and volcanic-based. The Terre Rouge portfolio is composed of wines made from Rhône varietals grown in the rugged and varying terroirs of this region.

Tasting Notes

Tête-à-Tête is our fun easy drinking assemblage of Mediterranean varietals (in 2012 - it’s 44% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 27% Mourvèdre). We blend it with current drinkability in mind, for drinking both at home and as a restaurant pour. We generally put it together from our younger vines and our more forward tasting barrel lots. 2012 was a year where most of our Rhône varietal lots had brightness and ripe fruit. For us, it was more of an average growing season. The fruit developed nicely all summer, with no surprises, and we received good flavour development. This wine drinks like wines from solid Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages vintage: sappy, spicy, mouth-filling, and nuanced. It is an eminently enjoyable everyday bottle. The 2012 has our typically deep boysenberry fruit aromatics, with smoky/meaty/gamey complex flavour components that emphasize our terroir , and a lengthy creamy texture. Aged for 16 months in a mixture of French barrels. This is a great California wine value !
